Sanctity of Human Life

January 22, 1973 was the day the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion-on-demand in all 50 states. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday of January as Sanctity of Human Life Day. Since 1973, abortion has been a controversial issue in our country. With the presidential election coming up, both democrats and republicans will garner support from both sides of the fence. What should be our response to this important issue? I believe that we need to pray for the end of abortion. According to “Life Matters,” praying for the all affected by abortion is important because it not only honors God, but also because abortion is primarily a spiritual battle, not just a social or political one.

Psalm 139:13-14 says,
“For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.”

On this day, let us pray that our Gracious Father, the God of life, would teach us ever more to respect and love all of his creation.
