Accountability

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17

A pastor once said, “Grace does not cancel out our responsibility or accountability for the things God has given us to do.” Responsibility and accountability often go hand-in-hand. The main difference is that responsibility can be shared while accountability cannot. Accountability is critical for any society to function. It is also critical for the church. Let’s face it, we need accountability. At The Well, the currency of accountability is trust. We need to be able to trust one another. We cannot have accountability without being vulnerable. We need to be willing to open ourselves up to share our inmost thoughts in a safe environment. Developing trust is  a process - it takes time and effort. To that end, we will be starting up a men’s group and women’s group at The Well to be accountable to one another. These groups will replace our existing Life Groups. The groups will launch in March. Susan Lee and Carol Shook will lead the women’s group and I will lead the men’s group with our elders. Please plan to attend our kickoff event. The Women’s Breakfast will be on March 11 and the Men’s Breakfast will be on March 25. As it is written, let us sharpen each other as iron sharpens iron. Let us not be satisfied with the status quo. Let us grow deeper in God by being accountable to one another. Here’s a primer question that we can be thinking about as we prepare for the breakfasts: What three changes in your life would be most pleasing to God? Give this question some thought as I believe it will help you focus on God as His child. Soli Deo gloria (Glory to God alone).
