What are you doing for others?

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” - Matthew 22:37-40

Many believe that Christianity is about loving God. Church on Sundays is about worshiping the Almighty God. Reading the bible and praying are how Christians grow closer to God. According to Jesus, there is more to Christianity than loving God. He teaches us that loving our neighbors as ourselves is the second greatest commandment. In other words, loving our community is a major responsibility of the church. As we journey as a church, let us remember to not only love God, but also love our neighbors. What are some tangible things we can do to love our neighbors? First and foremost, we can pray for our neighbors. Let us pray for the members and visitors of The Well Church. Let us pray for our neighborhood. Let us ask God for love for our neighbors. Second, let us be intentional in reaching out to a stranger. Is there someone at The Well Church that you are not close with? Invite the person (family) over for dinner and break bread together. And lastly, let's do something. When you see a need, stop and do something. Many of us think that someone else will take care of a need, however, when you ignore a need, you are actually setting a new standard for your community. As we celebrate MLK day tomorrow, let us remember one of his memorable quotes: Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'
