Pay Attention
Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. - Ephesians 6:18b (NLT)
The Apostle Paul urges believers to "stay alert" when praying. We must pay attention to our surroundings. We must pay attention to what God is doing at the moment. The French writer Simone Weil defined prayer as attention. According to Leighton Ford on Weil, "It was her deep conviction that if we were once able to pray the Lord's Prayer with complete attention, we would be transformed people."
Let us pray the Lord's Prayer with complete attention.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
The Well Church, let us discern God's presence as we pray by paying attention to Him.
