Absolute Truth
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple. - John 8:58-59
When Jesus claimed to be God by stating, "Before Abraham was, I am," the religious leaders' reaction was to stone him. From their perspective, Jesus' offense was blasphemy, and they were so offended that they didn't care if their actions broke Roman law of a non-Roman executing another person. Although their actions seem extreme, our heart conditions are the same as theirs when we reject the teachings of Jesus. When we agree with the statement, "I have my truth, and you have yours," we deny absolute truth. If we do not accept Jesus as truth, we are no different than the Jewish leaders.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, let us repent of our sin of rejection and hold onto the teachings of Jesus and abide in His word.
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:31b-32
