When the Spirit convicts
The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. - John 4:19
After Jesus confronts the Samaritan woman's sin, she not only misleads Jesus by telling him that she has no husband but also deflects the issue by attempting to change the subject by drawing attention away from her and towards Jesus. People who are hiding their sin are masters of this technique. You may have experienced this in your dealings with friends, family members, or even at church.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, as we continue to unpack this extraordinary narrative from John 4, let us make sure that not only our confessions are current but also do not deflect the leading and conviction of the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit convicts you, and sometimes he does through others around you, do not hide or run away. Repent and seek forgiveness.
"Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out." - Acts 3:19
May you experience the transformational power of the Holy Spirit.
