The Ultimate Gift
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. Isaiah 9:6-7
Many people use the week after Christmas to enjoy or return their Christmas gifts, unwind, and enjoy some downtime after the busy season. Most of us keep our Christmas decorations up, reminding us of the meaning of Christmas. Whether you enjoy your Christmas gift, have some downtime, or are busier than ever, let's pause to reflect on the precious gift every believer received that matters most- the gift of Jesus Christ. In Isaiah 9:6-7, we discover the nature of this gift and the names by which He is known. This passage reminds us of God's unspeakable love for us and calls us to respond with gratitude and devotion.
"To us a child is born, to us a son is given." Isaiah 9:6a
These words sum up the essence of the Christmas story – the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, the promised Messiah. Jesus was not just any child; He was God's ultimate gift to us. In the names given to Him, we discover the attributes of our Lord and Savior.
Wonderful Counselor Jesus is the source of wisdom. His counsel is perfect and leads us on the path of righteousness.
Mighty God He is not just a mere man; He is God in human form, possessing the power to heal, save, and transform lives. He is Mighty to Save.
Everlasting Father In His eternal love, Jesus provides us with a sense of belonging and security, just as a loving father cares for his children.
Prince of Peace Jesus brings peace that transcends all understanding. He reconciles us with God and brings peace to our troubled hearts.
Dear Church, as we reflect on this week's text, let's remember the significance of God's gift to us – Jesus Christ, whose names remind us of His wonderful nature and purpose. As we ponder on this life-giving truth, may our hearts be filled with gratitude, and may our lives be devoted to living in the light of His love and sharing it with those around us. Jesus is the ultimate gift, and He offers us forgiveness, redemption, and eternal life.
Merry Christmas!
