Service

42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  MARK 10:42–45

Our culture often defines greatness by power, prosperity, and prestige. We admire those who have successful careers or have achieved fame and fortune. But Jesus offers a different definition of greatness. He tells us that true greatness comes from serving others, putting their needs above our own, and actively working to make a positive difference in their lives.

Serving others is a beautiful act of love and compassion. It requires us to be humble, set aside our desires and ambitions, and focus on the needs of others. It may not always be easy, but when we serve others, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus himself.

Jesus is the ultimate example of service. He left the glory of heaven to come to earth and serve humanity. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and ultimately gave his life as a ransom for many. He didn't come to be served but to serve, and his life is a testament to the beauty and power of service.

Dear Church, as we journey through Lent, let us look to the cross, Jesus' ultimate act of love and service, and seek to follow Him in our lives. Who can you serve today?
