Walk in the Light

So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” John 12:34-36a

In today's text, we see a crowd questioning Jesus about who the Son of Man is and why he must be lifted up. They heard from the Law that Christ remains forever, so they needed clarification about how Jesus could be the Son of Man. In response, Jesus spoke of the light that was among them and encouraged them to believe in the light.

As believers, we also have the light of Christ within us. We know and understand who the Son of Man is and what he has done for us. We know that Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross for our sins. We have eternal life by believing in Him through His death and resurrection.

However, walking in the light does not mean we will never face darkness or difficulty. As we navigate life, we will encounter moments of darkness and uncertainty. But if we continue to believe and walk in the light of Christ, we can be confident that he will guide us through these moments and lead us to a place of peace and understanding.

Dear Church, just as Jesus encouraged the crowd to walk while they had the light, we, too, should walk in the light of Christ. Only by believing in Christ can we become sons and daughters of light. Let us live our lives in a way that reflects His love and grace.
