It is finished
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30
On Day 5 of this Holy Week devotional, we reflect on Jesus' fifth and final saying from the cross: "It is finished."
Today's saying expresses Jesus' victory over sin and death and completing his mission on earth. With these words, Jesus declared that He had accomplished all He came to do and that the work of redemption was finished.
As we reflect on this saying, we can ask ourselves some questions:
What does it mean to trust in Jesus' finished work of redemption?
How can we live out the reality of His victory over sin and death in our lives?
What barriers prevent us from fully embracing the truth of the gospel, and how can we work to overcome them?
Let's take time to pray, thanking God for the gift of salvation and the hope that comes from faith in Jesus. We can ask for the grace to live out the reality e of His victory over sin and death in our lives and for the courage to share this hope with others.
As we meditate on Jesus' words on this Good Friday, may we trust in Him and live out the reality of His finished work of redemption.
