Cost of Discipleship

"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you." John 15:18

In today's text, Jesus enlightens His disciples with a sobering reality: the world's potential hatred toward those who follow Him. The verse serves as both a warning and an encouragement, urging us to embrace the price of discipleship with tenacious faith.

Jesus doesn't hold back in His words. He acknowledges that the world may harbor hatred and hostility towards His followers. Many believers throughout history and across the globe have experienced such persecution. The values of God's kingdom often stand in stark contrast to the world's values, which can lead to opposition.

The comforting aspect of Jesus' words is that He understands our struggles. He reminds us that the world hated Him before it hated us. As we face opposition or ridicule, we can take comfort in the knowledge that we are sharing in the sufferings of Christ. Our faith connects us with the One who endured the ultimate hostility on the cross.

Dear Chuch, today's text reminds us that we may face challenges and hostility as we follow Jesus. However, let's not be discouraged. Instead, let's embrace the cost of discipleship with unwavering faith, knowing that our Lord understands our struggles and empowers us to stand firm. In a world that may not always understand or accept our faith, may your life shine as a beacon of hope and truth.
