Contrasting the World

"If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." John 15:19

Today's text talks about the distinction between our identity as followers of Christ and the values of the world. It challenges us to understand our unique position and response to the world's response.

Jesus speaks of the uniqueness of our calling by stating, "but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world." We are called out of the world to follow Christ. Our commitment to Him sets us apart from the prevailing values, priorities, and desires of the world. This calling is a mark of God's grace and election.

Because of this distinction, the world may respond with hatred or misunderstanding. The world operates according to its own systems and often opposes the values and teachings of Christ. As His followers, we might face resistance, opposition, or even persecution due to our unwavering commitment to Christ's kingdom.

Dear Church, let today's verse remind you of the nature of your calling. As followers of Christ, you are set apart and chosen, called to live in a way that contrasts the world. While facing challenges, respond with love and grace, reflecting the character of your Savior, Jesus Christ.
