Love One Another
"These things I command you, so that you will love one another." John 15:17
In today's text, Jesus issues an explicit command to His disciples that sums up the essence of Christian living: "love one another." This directive is both a commandment and a calling, inviting us to embrace the transformative power of love.
The command to "love one another" is not a mere suggestion; it's a divine mandate. Jesus, the perfect expression of love, issues this charge to His followers. It's a call to action to actively and intentionally love those around us. It's a reminder that love is at the heart of God's kingdom.
Our capacity and ability to love one another is rooted in Christ's sacrificial love for us. Jesus laid down His life for our sake, demonstrating the depth of God's love. As we remain in Him, we are empowered to love in ways that reflect His selfless and transformative love.
The call to love one another is counter-cultural in a world often marked by division, selfishness, and hostility. It challenges us to transcend societal norms and human limitations to love even when it is difficult, inconvenient, or impossible. Our love should be a distinctive mark of our faith, drawing others to the transformative power of Christ's love.
Dear Church, let us heed the command and calling from today's verse. As followers of Christ, our love for one another is not optional but essential. May your life be characterized by a love that reflects Christ's sacrificial and transformative love. As we love one another, may we point others to the boundless love of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
