Be still...

“Be still and know that I am God” is one of the most famous verses in the Bible. When was the last time you intentionally remained still for more than 5 minutes? In a world where we are constantly interrupted by phone calls, emails, text messages, and social media, it is hard to remain still and silent for a long time. During the time of silence, our mind drifts, and we are itching to check our devices for the latest updates. One study shows that it takes about 25 minutes to recover from an interruption. What’s more alarming is that we are interrupted every 11 minutes. So, in theory, we never recover from our interruptions. This leads to stress, forgetfulness, and restlessness. We often end each day feeling like we have not accomplished anything. I certainly can relate to this feeling. My friend used to tell me that we are designed to be “out of order” one day a week. We were not designed to be on the run every single day. If we do not stand still and rest, we will eventually breakdown - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Let us remember to take time out each day and be still.
