Faith in Action

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “The Church is the Church only when it exists for others...not dominating, but helping and serving. It must tell men of every calling what it means to live for Christ, to exist for others.” These are powerful words that describe the mission of the Church. Helping, serving, and telling are all action words. So, in order to achieve the mission, the church must be active and, in motion. As I reflect on Bonhoeffer’s words, I’m convicted as a man, father, and pastor. I must confess that I am often focused on making people feel comfortable at church, which in itself is not a bad focus. However, often times my motivation is wrong. I am doing it not to help, serve, and tell, but to make people like our church. It is not what God desires in us. Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38). There is a lot of work that we can do. The Well Church, I need your help. Let us be active this year as a community. Let us stand up and put our faith into action by serving one another, serving our neighbors, and helping each other. There is a lot we can do even on Sundays by cleaning up after lunch, serving with Pastor Junhee, or greeting people as they enter our church. Let us not be content with where we are today. Let us take ownership of our church and tell the world what it means to live for Christ by following Christ and giving ourselves away.
