Hope

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. —Matthew 10:34

Happy Monday!

Most people do not like conflict; however, there will always be disputes, whether it is disagreement about how best to spend the money, which politician to vote for, or what is best for one's community. When we are in such a situation, we want the problem to be resolved — we want peace.

The Bible teaches us that Jesus is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), so the above statement by Jesus is confusing. What did Jesus mean when he said that he did not come to bring peace?

Our expectation of Jesus is often different than his. Jesus came to bring peace between God and us — this is Good News! Through Jesus, our relationship with God the Father is restored.

The Well Church, let us make sure that our hope is not based on human assumptions but on the Bible.

For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
—2 Corinthians 1:20
