Pierced Heart
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. —Matthew 10:34
As we looked at yesterday, Jesus came to bring peace between God and us. A consequence of this is that there will be division among people, including family and loved ones. Jesus uses a sword as a metaphor for the separation between believers and non-believers. A pastor once said, “The truth divides people. The more fundamental the truth, the deeper and wider the division.” Not only does the truth divide people, but it also pierces our hearts, revealing our true motives. Using a sword as an illustration, the writer of Hebrews writes,
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. —Hebrews 4:12
The Well Church, the Holy Spirit often convicts us by revealing our fallen condition. What is God showing you today? Let us come before Him and confess our sins to Him. Do not delay — God forgives!
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. —1 John 1:9
