Impress for Success
The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. —Proverbs 29:25
Let’s face it — we want others to accept and approve of us. We fear rejection. Therefore, many go beyond their means to impress those around us with our wealth, clothes, technology, and careers. Vernon Howard said, “The need to impress others causes half the world’s woes.” The Bible calls this the fear of man. Proverbs 29:25 teaches us that when we mainly act out of a fear of man, we show our lack of trust in the Lord.
The Well Church, let us be a community that trusts in the Lord. Let us pray that our motivation will be to fear the Lord.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. —Proverbs 3:5-6
