Citizenship
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings. —James 1:1
James writes his letter to the “twelve tribes in the Dispersion.” The twelve tribes refer to the new Israel, the multiracial church. He is reminding the church that they are dispersed and not home. In other words, their citizenship is in heaven, not on earth.
The Well Church, today’s text reminds us that our citizenship is in heaven. As citizens of heaven, we ought not to seek earthly pleasures and treasures. We are to promote heaven’s interests! What can you do to promote and advance the gospel today?
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, —Philippians 3:20
