Crown of life

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. —James 1:12

Life is often portrayed as a race, a long-distance race that requires endurance and perseverance. James is encouraging believers to endure through trials and tests by remaining faithful to Christ. The reward for faithful perseverance is eternal life (1 Corinthians 9:24–25).

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. —1 Corinthians 9:24–25

The Well Church, let us set our eyes on the finish line as we endure trials. Jesus Christ finished His race when He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). Let us trust in Him and run the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1).

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. —Revelation 2:10
