Mighty to Save
Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them - John 2:23-24a
Jesus performed many signs during His ministry on earth as John writes in John 20:30, "Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;." The purpose of signs and wonders is to point people to God to believe in Him to have life in his name. In today's text, we witness people believing in Jesus, but for the wrong reasons. Instead of believing in Jesus to have life, they believed in Jesus because of His signs and wonders to have a comfortable life. In other words, their faith was superficial.
Many identify as Christians today because they believe in Jesus' signs, including his power to heal and provide. If that is the only reason they believe in Jesus, they have missed the mark. They do not have life in his name.
As we reflect on today's text, let us remember to not place our trust in signs and wonders but to trust in Jesus Christ to have life in his name. Jesus is mighty to save! Do you believe in Jesus?
