Aha!
[19] Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." [20] The Jews then said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?" [21] But he was speaking about the temple of his body. [22] When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. - John 2:19-22
I don't know about you, but there are times when the bible does not make sense. No matter how hard I try to understand it, I simply cannot even after reading the passage a few times. Today's text encourages us to never give up on situations like these.
The disciples of Jesus, who spent three years together with him, did not understand all of his teachings. In today's text, Jesus was speaking about his body when he said, "Destroy this temple." No one understood Jesus at the time. The aha moment came three years after the event, when Jesus was raised from the dead.
Brothers and sisters, when we read Scripture, we need to rely on the Holy Spirit to understand His word. The Spirit illuminates so that you and I can understand. Let us not give up when we do not understand God's word. Stay the course and rely on the Holy Spirit as you tackle God's word.
But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets. - 1 Corinthians 2:10 (NLT)
Lastly, do not give up on those who do not believe around you when you present the gospel. Pray that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes so that they may believe.
Let us pray and be ready for the aha moment.
