The Ultimate Gift

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the LORD;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
For he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm. - Psalm 33:6-9

As we continue to reflect on the birth of Christ during Advent, today's text brings us back to the beginning, which is a poetic summary of Genesis 1. Today's text demonstrates the power of God, and he is the Lord of creation, the almighty God. As God's children, we should revere him in all that we do, yet we fail and sin every time we draw attention away from God to ourselves. And the penalty for our sin is death, and we cannot save ourselves from the wrath of God. So what must we do to be saved? The solution to our sin problem is Christ coming here on earth to die for our sins so that we may have eternal life! Scripture teaches us that

"God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8

Dear Church, let us remember that Christmas is not merely about us giving and receiving gifts to our loved ones, and it is about celebrating and worshiping God for sending us the greatest gift in Christ Jesus.

Let us worship God today.
