Snow Day

"Come now, let's settle this," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. — Isaiah 1:18 (NLT)

Most of us are blanketed by the snowstorm today. Kids are probably excited about the snow, and many of us who will have to plow and dig are not too happy about the snow. Despite how we feel about the snow, we cannot ignore the beauty of fresh white snow. I don't know about you, but I always experience a sense of peace when I see snow falling.

Isaiah 1:18 compares our sin to scarlet, a permanent red dye that is impossible to remove from clothing. He reminds us that not only can God remove the stain of sin, but also makes it white as snow. But we must make a conscious decision to trust and obey God.

On this snow day, brothers and sisters, let us repent and confess our sins with the confidence of knowing that our loving God forgives and purifies. Let us pray the prayer David prayed:

"Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." —Psalm 51:7 (NLT)
