Friendship
You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. —James 4:4
When you examine your life, do you live by imitating worldly ways of thinking? There is nothing wrong with wanting a comfortable life. However, when our desires keep us from pleasing God, we are sinning and have "friendship with the world," which leads us to be enemies with God.
Are you a friend of the world or a friend of Christ? Christ said,
"You are my friends if you do what I command you." —John 15:14
In the Old Testament, only Abraham and Moses are called friends of God. Friendship with God is an extraordinary privilege that comes only by trusting and obeying Christ. We are incapable of serving two masters (Matthew 6:24). We can only follow the world or Christ. Where does your loyalty lie?
