Perfect Submission
Submit yourselves therefore to God. —James 4:7a
In today’s text, James commands us to submit our lives to God. In the Bible, submission does not only include obedience but also requires a transformation from the inside-out. We must yield to God’s authority and will, commit our lives to Him, and follow Him.
What does it look like to submit completely? One example that comes to mind is from Ruth. When following Naomi, she says,
“Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. I will die where you die, and there I will be buried.” — Ruth 1:16-17a
Another example comes from our Lord Jesus Christ. He said,
“For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.” —John 6:38
The Well Church, let us look to Christ today and submit to God in all areas of our lives.
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
—Blessed Assurance, verse 3
