A Profound Mystery

In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. — Ephesians 5:28-32

Paul continues to command the husband to love his wife through sacrificial love as Christ loves the church. He then quotes about marriage from Genesis 2:24. God instituted marriage at creation. Paul further explains that marriage reflects the relationship of Christ and the church.

In Matthew 19:5-6, Jesus further explains,

'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.

The Well Church, as we think about a husband's role in marriage, let us not forget that the church is Christ's bride. Let us worship Him for His love for us, His bride. We belong to Him.
