Sunday best

Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. — John 20:1

HE IS RISEN!

Christ’s resurrection changed everything, including our Sunday worship. John 20 takes place on the first day of the week, Sunday, a day after the Sabbath. From this day forward, believers worshipped on Sundays to celebrate the Risen Savior (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:2). The term “Sunday best” comes from this idea of celebrating Jesus’ resurrection by giving God our very best, even our clothing.

Brothers and sisters, God does not judge us by our appearance as He looks at our heart. Let us, however, give our very best each week in our worship. We must have the same joy that we demonstrate every Easter and Christmas in our worship to Him.

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:23-24
