Belt of Truth

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. - Ephesians 6:14-15

The Apostle Paul encourages believers to stand against spiritual attacks by taking on a firm armor of God. We do this first by fastening on the belt of truth. The belt holds the armor together and, therefore, is an essential piece of the armor.

The truth comes from the word of God. We must not only meditate on the word but also fixing our minds on great doctrines. We do this by anchoring our faith on creeds and catechism. For example, the Apostle Creed contains gospel and theological truths.

The Well Church, let us fasten on the belt of truth each day with God's word and develop a solid theological framework by confessing the Apostle's Creed.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

[he descended to the dead.]

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.
