What is the point?
You have said, 'It is vain to serve God. What is the profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the LORD of hosts? - Malachi 3:14
What is the point of serving God? That was the question the people of Judah were asking each other as they were grumbling. The reason people ask is that God is not meeting their expectations for following Him. Perhaps they were expecting immediate material blessings. Or maybe they were expecting God to behave as a genie and solve our problems.
We fall into the trap of grumbling and complaining about serving God when our focus is not on God. Instead of asking, "What is the point?" we must ask, "What good does it do for God?" We must serve God because God is God, and He is worthy to be praised.
Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness. - Psalm 115:1 (NLT)
Dear Church, let us honor and worship God with all our might today. He is worthy!
