Be an imitator
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. - Ephesians 5:1-2
What does it mean to be a Christian? In one sense, being a Christian means that one is Christ-like. Just as children imitate their parents, Christians should naturally imitate and follow God's example as children of God. How can we accomplish this?
First, one must know Christ as Lord and Savior. Christians are children of God. John writes,
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him." - 1 John 3:1
Second, we must cultivate a relationship with Christ. Hebrews 4:16 calls us to draw near to God. We can accomplish this through reading God's word and prayer.
"Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." - Hebrews 4:16
Lastly, we must imitate Christ by following His example according to the Bible. Today's text encourages us to imitate Christ by sacrificial love. As God's beloved, we must walk in love.
The Well Church, know that you are children of God. As God loves, let us love by imitating Christ.
