Blind Faith
So the Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" - John 8:57
Let's face it, there are a lot of difficult teachings in the bible, and it is not always easy to accept the bible in blind faith. When I say "blind faith," I mean belief without true understanding. The Jews could not take Jesus' words as truth in today's text because of their innate knowledge and experience. After all, how can a man under fifty years old see someone who has been dead for two millennia?
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. - Hebrews 11:6
Dear Church, let us humbly rely on the Holy Spirit as we approach God's word. We cannot understand Christ when we refuse to accept Him as truth and obey His word. When we encounter passages we do not understand, let us pray the following prayer from Mark 9:24:
"I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!" - Mark 9:24b
May the LORD bless you as you earnestly seek Him.
