A Frightening and Freeing Light

Wintertime in the United States is the perfect time to reflect on the Advent season. The nights are long, and we appreciate the light. In today's devotional (pages 46-47), Kim tells us that although the light reveals our affinity towards darkness, "the light has come to tell us the truth—that we are forgiven, accepted, loved."

Dearly beloved, as we reflect on today's devotional, let us turn towards Him and remember why Jesus came and why He is returning. May the LORD bless you as you seek Him during this Advent season.

Meditate on John 3:16–21

  • How is God's light frightening?

  • How is it freeing?

  • In what ways does the broader context of verse 16 deepen your understanding of Jesus' identity and purpose?
