Our tents
Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again," - John 4:13
Everything we work for here on earth is temporary - wealth, health, status, comfort, legacy. Our life on earth is temporary. The Apostle Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians,
"For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands." - 2 Corinthians 5:1 (NLT)
As a part-time tentmaker, Paul uses a tent analogy to describe our frailty. Nothing on earth can satisfy our deepest longing. Today's text is an excellent reminder for all believers not to trust in earthly things. As Paul reminds Timothy,
"Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment." - 1 Timothy 6:17 (NLT)
Brothers and sisters, let us heed today's warning and place our trust in God alone. He gives us all we need, so let us live out our lives reflecting our faith in God and aim to be like Christ.
