Satisfaction

"but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." - John 4:14

A rock song from the '90s begins, "Everyone is searching for something, something to fill in the holes." I believe that the songwriter accurately describes our human condition. Our problem originates from filling our emptiness with worldly interests. Any satisfaction we get is only temporary. We quickly feel empty again. C. S. Lewis said,

"If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world."

In today's verse, Jesus explains to the Samaritan woman that only God can satisfy our soul's thirst. We have eternal life through Jesus Christ!

Dear Church, let us remember that our permanent home is not here on earth, and it is heaven. We are strangers in a strange land, and our longing is to be with our Father in Heaven. Look to Christ today for all your needs, and may he fill you with his love, presence, joy, and comfort.
