Discipleship

Dallas Willard writes in The Spirit of the Disciplines, "The word 'disciple' occurs 269 times in the New Testament. 'Christian' is found only three times and was first introduced to refer precisely to the disciples. ... The New Testament is a book about disciples, by disciples, and for disciples of Jesus Christ."

What does it mean to be a disciple? A straightforward definition is to follow Christ and teach others to follow him. Jesus commanded his followers the next commandment, known as The Great Commission

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." - Matthew 28:19–20

Discipleship is for ALL CHRISTIANS. As we follow Christ, we must teach and encourage others to live as Jesus commanded. We must "desire above all else to be like Christ" (Willard). Church attendance is not enough.

The Well Church, let us reflect on our Christian life. Are you a follower of Jesus Christ? Who are you discipling? Let us strive to be like Christ and encourage others to follow him as we follow Christ.
