Do you want to be healed?
[1] After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
[2] Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. [3] In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. [5] One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. [6] When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?" - John 5:1-6
In today's text, Jesus singles out a man who has been disabled for thirty-eight years and asks him, "Do you want to be healed?" It is incredible to see that before asking the man, John notes that Jesus saw him and knew that he had already been there a long time. The man did not ask Jesus for help; however, Jesus already knew his situation offers to heal.
Dear Church, our Lord Jesus Christ already knows our situation even before asking Him. Before teaching his disciple the Lord's Prayer, he tells them,
"your Father knows what you need before you ask him." - Matthew 6:8b
When we pray, let us confidently and humbly approach him, knowing that he sees and already knows our needs. Prayer, therefore, brings us peace. The Apostle Paul writes,
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7
May God's peace be upon you as you approach him today.
