Wait for the LORD
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!
- Psalm 27:1,14
In today's sermon, I refer to Psalm 27:14, where David encourages God's people to wait for the LORD. To wait for the Lord is to look to him with dependence and trust, and it requires not only faith but also patience. We must trust knowing that the LORD is our fortress, protecting us from danger. Where do we get this faith? The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Faith is a gift from God that comes from hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ. As the apostles simply asked Jesus, “Increase our faith!” in Luke 17, let us come to Jesus and ask him to increase our faith.
Brothers and sisters in Christ, where are you in your faith journey? Is Jesus asking you to wait? How long have you been waiting for God? As we ask God to increase our faith, let us patiently trust and obey him in our daily struggle and be content with God's love, grace, promise, presence, and power.
Trust in the LORD!
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
- Psalm 118:8-9
