Chewing on God's Word
So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. - John 6:53-54
Jesus continues to teach that eternal life only comes from having a personal relationship with Him. What does it look like to have a personal relationship with Jesus? Jesus equates it to eating and drinking, which are synonymous with believing in Him. As Jesus said earlier,
"For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day." - John 6:40 (emphasis added)
Believers must feed on Jesus. One way to feed on Him is through reading and meditating on Scripture. The psalmist teaches us to delight and meditate on the law day and night (Psalm 1:2).
The Well Church, let us feed on the Bread of Life by constantly reflecting deeply on God's Word and its meaning. Let us chew on God’s Word and delight in Him.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. - Psalm 1
