Following when we don't understand
The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" - John 6:52
After grumbling with one another because of Jesus' statement that he came down from heaven, the Jews (religious leaders) now dispute with one another over His statement. A similar incident occurs in the Book of Exodus, where the Jews grumbled at God and Moses for their hardships and then quarreled with them (Exodus 17:2).
When people do not understand God's teaching and refuse to learn, they often resort to anger, vigorous debates, and even all-out fighting. God's instructions can be challenging to follow and evoke emotions that lead to downright refusal to obey. These behavior arise from our rejection of accepting God is Lord of All.
The Well Church, how do you respond to God's word and instructions? Do you find it difficult to trust and obey? Let us remember that He is Lord of All.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. - Romans 10:12
As people of God, let us trust and obey him in faith and humility by fixing our eyes on Jesus, especially when we do not understand. Take your frustration to God and lean on God, as it is written,
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)For we live by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
