Is the bible offensive?
So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. Yet many of the people believed in him. They said, "When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?" - John 7:30-31
There are only two responses to Jesus - acceptance or rejection. In today's text, the Jerusalemites either wanted to arrest him or believed in him. Even today, people accept or reject the gospel by being offended by it.
What about you? Have you been offended by the bible and its teachings? If so, do not just dismiss the bible's teachings that offend you, but examine your heart and ask God not only to reveal your heart's condition but also to help you receive his teaching.
The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick;
who can understand it? - Jeremiah 17:9
Dear Church, as God continues to transform us to his liking, let us always remember and consider the cross of Calvary. The most offensive historical event occurred on the cross so that you and I can be restored and renewed.
When the bible offends you, look to the cross!
