Our God

Who is like the LORD our God,
who is seated on high,
who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
to make them sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the LORD! - Psalm 113:5-9

Who is like our God? The psalmist introduces the hymn of praise expressing our God who sits on high and yet looks far down on the heavens and earth. The phrase for far down commonly means "humble or abase." Our God lowers Himself to consider His creation, including you and me.

The LORD looks down from heaven;
he sees all the children of man; - Psalm 33:13

As depicted in the rest of today's verses, He exalts the lowly, grants them royal status, and gives hope to the hopeless. Our God is awesome!

Dear Church, as you reflect on today's verse, know that your Father in heaven dearly loves you.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. - 1 John 3:1
