Praying the Bible
But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer.
- Psalm 66:19 (NLT)
We have been praying through the Bible as a church for about a week. How was your experience? I found the experience rich, fruitful, encouraging, and worshipful.
In the book "Praying the Bible," Whitney gives testimony of George Mueller's prayer life. He states that Mueller "never made the needs of his ministries known to anyone except to God in prayer. Only through his annual reports did people learn after the fact what the needs had been during the previous year and how God had provided." (p. 82). I find this testimony remarkable in how Mueller placed trust in God alone.
Dear Church, as we face challenges in all aspects of life, whether at home, work, school, or church, let us trust in God and continue to pray through the Bible, allowing God's Word to guide our prayers. As Bonhoeffer said, “The Psalms are given us to this end, that we may learn to pray them in the name of Jesus Christ.”
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
- Proverbs 3:5-6
