Walk in the Light
Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again." The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?" Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him." - JOHN 11:7-10
Jesus' disciples knew returning to Judea would be dangerous for all of them, so they tried to talk him out of going. However, Jesus said in an obscure proverb that going to Bethany would not be too risky. Knowing what he had to do, Jesus did not listen to the recommendation of his disciples.
When God calls us to places we do not want to go, we come up with legitimate excuses -- it's too dangerous, we are not ready, they don't need us, or someone else will take care of the job. However, God calls us to trust and obey Him, even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
Dear Church, have you been delaying God's call to action? I want to encourage you to set aside your excuse and follow Him. Walk in the light!
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. - PSALM 23:4
