What's taking God so long?
Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. - JOHN 11:5-6
Why does God take His time during our desperate hour? When we are extremely ill, in an emergency, or facing a life-or-death situation, God often does not answer our prayers immediately. We get frustrated and scared as evil tempts us to compromise our faith and take shortcuts. What are we to do in such situations?
Dear Church, in today's text, John explains that Jesus waited two days to respond to the news that Lazarus was ill. Why did Jesus not drop everything and head over to Mary, Martha, and Lazarus? Because He loves them. When facing a dire situation, let me encourage you to trust God and His word, knowing He loves you. No matter how dark your circumstances may be, keep your eyes on Jesus Christ, the author and perfector of your faith.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. PSALM 103:11–13
