Drowning Man

1  Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!
2  O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy! Psalm 130:1–2

As we begin reading Psalm 130, we sense the psalmist's desperation. He cries out to the LORD "out of the depths," suggesting he is in great emotional or spiritual turmoil. We can all relate to this feeling, can't we? Sometimes life seems overwhelming, and we feel like we're drowning in our circumstances and don't know how to get out.

Yet, despite the darkness and despair that the psalmist feels, he doesn't give up. He doesn't turn away from God; instead, he cries out to Him for help. And this is the key to the psalmist's hope - he knows that God is there, listening to his cries and ready to help him.

So today, if you're feeling overwhelmed or lost, remember the psalmist's words: "Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!" Cry out to God, and trust in His mercy and love. He is always there, waiting to help you through whatever struggles you may be facing.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
