Reverence
3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared. Psalm 130:3–4
The psalmist acknowledges that if God were to keep a record of our sins and hold us accountable for each one, none of us could stand before Him. Our sins are many and severe, and they separate us from a holy God. But even though we are unworthy and undeserving, God extends His mercy and grace to us through the gift of forgiveness.
The psalmist points out that it is because of God's forgiveness that He is to be revered. When we recognize the gravity of our sin and the mercy God extends to us, our hearts are filled with gratitude and reverence for Him. We stand in awe of His great love and the sacrifice He made for us through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Dear Church, as we reflect on today's verses, let us acknowledge our sin and our need for forgiveness. None of us is perfect, and we all fall short of the glory of God. But when we come to Him with a contrite heart, confessing our sins and asking for His forgiveness, He is faithful to forgive us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Remember the great mercy God has shown us by His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. And let's approach Him with humble hearts, asking for His grace and mercy to sustain us each day.
