Seeing the Truth
so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
"Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
Therefore they could not believe. John 12:38-39a
Today's text brings to light a common struggle that has existed since the beginning of time – the struggle to believe. Even with the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and the works of the Lord displayed before their eyes, some still could not bring themselves to believe in Jesus Christ.
John quotes the prophet Isaiah, who spoke of this struggle in his time, and his words still ring true today.
Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? Isaiah 53:1
This passage highlights the difficulty of accepting the truth of the gospel message. It's easy to doubt and question what we cannot see, touch, or comprehend.
But the truth remains, and it is there for us to see. God continues to reveal his power through His works. We must recognize that disbelief can result from spiritual blindness. This blindness is not physical but a condition of the heart that prevents us from recognizing the truth of God's word. We may be so focused on our preconceived notions and ideas that we fail to see the truth.
We need to pray for our eyes to be opened to see and receive the truth. When we ask God to reveal His truth, we invite Him to work in our lives. The power of God's word is transformative, and He has the power to change our hearts and minds.
Dear Church, let us pray that we and those around us may have the faith to believe in the word of the Lord. May we trust in the Lord's promises and rest in the assurance that He will always be with us, guiding and directing us every step of the way.
