Trust and Obey
The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me." John 12:48-50
Today's verses remind us of the importance of obedience to the Father's will. Jesus did not speak on His own authority but always spoke the words the Father commanded Him to speak, demonstrating that Jesus was not only obedient to the Father, but God sent His Son so that we may have eternal life.
We must also remember that there will be a judgment for those who do not believe in Jesus and reject His words. We need to take the words of Jesus seriously and obey Him.
Dear Church, as we reflect on today's text, let us ask ourselves if Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Does your life demonstrate that Jesus is your Lord? Are you taking His words seriously and seeking to live according to them? Let us choose today to follow Jesus and live in obedience to Him.
And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24:15
