Make Disciples

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

The Great Commission encapsulates the heart of our mission as believers. These words of Jesus contain a powerful command that directs our focus and purpose as followers of Christ. At the core of this commission lies the main verb: "Make disciples."

Making disciples means engaging in intentional and purposeful relationships that lead others to followers of Jesus. It involves more than just sharing the Gospel; it encompasses a lifelong commitment to nurturing and guiding others in their spiritual journey. This command invites us to partner with God as we partake in His redemptive work.

Making disciples requires humility and authenticity. We must be willing to invest time, energy, and love into the lives of those we seek to disciple. Jesus calls us to journey alongside others, modeling His character, teaching His ways, and sharing His truth. Through this relational investment, hearts are transformed, lives are renewed, and disciples are made.

Allen Hadidian teaches,

Discipling others is the process by which a Christian with a life worth emulating commits himself for an extended period of time to a few individuals who have been won to Christ, the purpose being to aid and guide their growth and maturity and equip them to reproduce themselves in a third spiritual generation.

Dear Church, let us reflect on the weight and significance of Jesus' command to make disciples. May we embrace this calling with humility and obedience, understanding that it is a lifelong journey. Let us seek the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, relying on God's authority and presence to carry out this great commission.
